That's (part of) what roaming profiles do. Of course, if you expect it to work just like a Mac, you'll be disappointed. If you were building a store for preferences alone, the registry is not, after all, what you'd build. So it's not too surprising it didn't come out like Apple's user-defaults stuff.

Vista home will not "join" a Domain 2. You have no *real* security with a Workgroup. 3. Roaming Profiles (My Documents on a server share) can be a mess to deal with, even some skilled IT Admin don't mess with them. A Domain is required for Roaming Profiles, which Vista Home won't work on.
